You need to be broken,
Piece by piece —
Unhinged,
Shook to the core,
— To know who you really are,
The ugliness, the mess inside,
The weakness hanging by a thread,
To rear its ugly head.
You need to be broken,
Till you learn to recognise yourself,
Learn your strengths,
Know what you really seek,
Before you lose yourself again.
You need to be broken,
Feel hopeless,
To find faith in the rubble.
You need to be broken,
To march on,
With acceptance that not everyone will stick,
And that some goodbyes are a relief
You need to be broken,
To realise that you can make it,
Piecing yourself together again and healing
Take time,
But it also means that you’ve lived.
You need to be broken,
To have some semblance of a life.

This reminds me of the question, are we born like this?
